About Our Counselling Service

Welcome to Pride Space counselling and therapy service. A specialised free and low-cost therapy service for LGBTQ+ people in the UK. Our waiting list is currently open, and we’re accepting applications for our free and low-cost therapy services as well as support and therapy groups.
OUR COUNSELLORS AND THERAPISTS
At Pride Space CIC, our counsellors come from a variety of backgrounds and are skilled in working with people from all walks of life. They are compassionate listeners, trained to fully hear you without judgment, helping you explore your current challenges, past experiences, and future concerns.
Rather than giving advice or telling you what you should feel or do, our counsellors are here to support you in making your own decisions and guiding the changes you want to see in your life.
All of our counsellors are members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), or other accredited and recognised ethical bodies.
Every counsellor is DBS-checked, insured and professionally supervised. At PrideSpace it is a requirement that they follow the BACP’s Ethical Framework for the Counselling Profession (https://www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions/), regardless of which ethical body they are members of. This is to ensure that our team is fully aligned and working from one framework.
We also provide extra training on issues surrounding sexuality and gender.
Because our team is so diverse, we can offer a range of counselling styles and approaches, known as modalities. Some of our counsellors are in training, but this will be discussed with you during your assessment.
HOW DOES THE FREE THERAPY WORK?
We offer a limited number of free counselling sessions for those who are unwaged or suffering financial hardship — up to 6 sessions per client, which can be extended up to 12 sessions.
These can take place online or in person at our space in Nottingham’s city centre. There is a waiting list for this service. To learn more, please complete the form, and we’ll be in touch.
We can offer up to six free counselling sessions for children aged 11 and over where parents or carers are unwaged or experiencing financial hardship. Any sessions after the initial six are available at our low-cost rate. Unfortunately spaces are extremely limited, however we can help and refer you to another Nottinghamshire based service.
LOW-COST THERAPY
Our low-cost online counselling and therapy service costs just £40 for weekly 50-minute sessions or £36 for weekly 50-minute sessions if online. If you are waged but still cannot afford our low-cost service, please reach out to us, as we may be able to offer a Pay What You Can/Reduced Fee Service. Clients on the low-cost and Reduced Fee service can use the service for 6 months, with the potential to extend to a further 6 months.
Our low-cost counselling service offers excellent value, with counselling sessions in the local area typically costing between £50 and £70. We work hard to keep our fees as low as possible, making therapy accessible to everyone who needs it.

Group therapy is a form of therapy in which a small group of individuals meets regularly under the guidance of a trained therapist to discuss and explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It is designed to help participants address a variety of psychological and emotional issues in a supportive and confidential environment.
We run 6 —and 12-week courses, unless otherwise stated.
Service users are asked to commit to attending all sessions. Group sizes vary, but we limit them to 6-8 people.
